The personification of fashion and trend, British fashion designer John Galliano is revamping people all the way through his designer haute couture clothing. He is a name which needs no introduction. He stands as the pride of many fashion festivals. This mater artist was born in 1960 and after his admission in St Martin School, it was impossible to stop him for his work. Initially he had poor financial conditions because of which he was not able to launch his own brand. But as the saying goes, ‘where there is a will, there is a way. He passionately worked for the national theatre. Slowly and gradually he established his foot in the showground of fashion world. His first notable achievement was when his maiden collection was exhibited in the London Fashion Week. Soon after this John Galliano started off with his own label for his apparel collection which was named after him.
He stepped the ladder of success one by one. In 1955 being impressed by his work, the owner of luxury goods company LVMH, Bernard Arnault appointed him as the designer of Givenchy. He was the first British designer in the history to head a French fashion house. He then presented his first own fashion show where he displayed his best of all designs. He got high praise for his collection which was later licensed to Vogue Patterns.
In 1966 he replaced an Italian designer Gianfranco and was moved from Givenchy to Christian Dior. He later recognised femininity as the centre to his creations. He is always known for his refined work and magnificent cuts and designs which always gives a feminine feeling. He uses a mixture of fabric which gives the effect of lavishness and luxury in his products. It was in 1987 when his hard work paid him back and for the very first time John Galliano was awarded as the Designer of the Year for his magnificent Blanche Dubois variety. It was just the beginning. He later won it in 1994, 1995 and again in 1997 when he shared his award with Alexander McQueen.
Special niche acquired
But his list of achievements does not end here. In 2001, he became the commander of the Order Of the British Empire and was awarded with the Birthday Honours for his contribution to the fashion world. In the same year he received his CBE in London. Next year, in 2002 he won RDI (Royal Designer for the Industry) for his services he provided to the fashion industry. Not just this, in 2007 he appeared on ‘The Independent on Sunday’s’ ‘Pink List’ with the title saying, “one of the most prominent gay individuals in Britain”. He was awarded the French Legion of Honour in 2009. In 2010 in an interview he said, “My role is to seduce”, and it is what he do with his work. He has proved his implausible talent and risen to the top of the fashion world. His shows and his creative work speak for himself. John Galliano is certainly a man of substance.
